There
are very interesting discussions taking place in the Connemara world at
the moment. Two good blogs for contemporary issues can be found at

Back in Australia, the things we warned against over
30 years ago are, frustratingly, becoming only too real. Fiona Comer's
excellent work on the bottle-necking of bloodlines (http://connemaraponygenetics.wordpress.com/publications/australia-2/australias-connemara-stallion-lines-in-2013-part-1-introduction/) should be read, understood and taken to heart by anyone involved with Connemaras in Australasia and elsewhere.
There are of course mutterings as to how ths situation
was allowed to develop, and it cannot be denied that the very flawed
inspection/classification system of pones before they enter the Stud
Book has been a major contributor. That this would happen was blindingly
obvious and should have been addressed much earlier on, but politics,
prejudices, ambition, incompetence and ignorance got in the way.
